The 13 most influential books: Masterpieces that shaped my life.
Charan Singh “Ajpu’s” 13 most influential books
The fascination with books arose during many road trips.
Spanning nearly two decades playing music; I was always accompanied by a great book.
In the beginning, stories from journalists risking their lives filled my heart with courage. The truth-seekers led me down a rabbit hole digging deeper into the unknown.
The second wave of selected readings were educational books. My interests expanded from one topic to another. Absorbing everything like a sponge, I wanted to know the answers to the universe.
Gemology, numerology, astrology, reflexology, shamanism, dreaming, mythology, hypnotherapy, yoga, poetry, hidden knowledge, magic, divination, plant medicine, and ancient civilizations all keep me in a cosmic dance.
I can now jump into the sky with the constellations as my guide.
I was in my 20’s when venturing off into the vast sea of incredible writings. I considered attending medical school at the age of 19 while learning ayurvedic medicine.
Paperback and hardcover books are like vinyl records to me. I cherish my library, especially on rainy days.
Before yoga studio’s existed in my home town, I would invite a friend over to read the instructions of each yoga posture to me. What great memories of friends reading out loud about something we knew nothing about and trying to figure it out together.
Today, I continue to read books for many inquiries not available on the world wide web. I dream of accessing the lost Library of Alexandria. It’s quite possible the Akashic records could contain our forgotten history. The books I will share with you have had a great impact on my life. Some were gifted to me, others recommended, or obtained through the open channels of life.
Magic will be revealed, all that is required is the reader.
By purchasing any of these books via the links you are supporting my family, we thank you kindly. If none of these books tickle your fancy send me a message with some suggestions. These literary masterpieces contain a lot of power and wisdom. In the nearly 20 years into this journey; here are my top 13 most influential books.
May these books bring illumination to your life.
- 1) Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior
There is basic human wisdom that can help solve the world’s problems. It doesn’t belong to anyone's culture or region or religious tradition — though it can be found in many of them throughout history. It’s what Chögyam Trungpa called the sacred path of the warrior. The sacred warrior conquers the world not through violence or aggression, but gentleness, courage, and self-knowledge. The warrior discovers the basic goodness of human life and radiates that goodness out into the world for the peace and sanity of others. That’s what the Shambhala teachings are all about, and this is the book that has been presenting them to a wide and appreciative audience for more than twenty years.
Charan’s words: It’s the “feng shui” of prioritizing what’s most important in life. Your sacred temple reflects who you are. When connecting deeper to the sensitivity within the body, feelings arise, and one master’s one’s self abundance.

- 4) The Path of the Yoga Sutras
One of the great gifts of the yogic path is that it returns us to a life of simplicity, even as we go about our lives in a world of growing complexity. Through practice, we ultimately find the freedom to be who we really are, and allow others do the same.
This was Patañjali’s original intention when he penned his legendary sutras. But when a text is over 2,000 years old, important things can get lost in translation. For today’s yoga students looking to take their practice “off the mat and into the world,” Nicolai Bachman presents The Path of the Yoga Sutras.
By organizing the sutras into 51 core concepts that support the Western student in germinating and blossoming these potent “seed” teachings, Bachman has created a breakthrough tool for integrating yoga philosophy and practice, whatever your level of experience.

- 11) Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self
Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self is the account of an extraordinarily talented lucid dreamer who goes beyond the boundaries of both psychology and religion. In the process, he stumbles upon the Inner Self.
While lucid (consciously aware) in the dream state and able to act and interact with dream figures, objects, and settings, dream expert Robert Waggoner experienced something transformative and unexpected. He was able to interact consciously with the dream observer — the apparent Inner Self — within the dream. At first, this seemed shocking, even impossible, since psychology normally alludes to such theoretical inner aspects as the Subliminal Self, the Center, the Internal self-helper in vague and theoretical ways.
Waggoner proposes 5 stages of lucid dreaming and guides readers through them, offering advice for those who have never experienced the lucid dream state and suggestions for how experienced lucid dreamers can advance to a new level. Lucid Dreaming offers exciting insights and vivid illustrations that will intrigue not only avid dream workers but for anyone interested in consciousness, identity, and the definition of reality.
Charan’s words: If we pass a third of our life in sleep mode, why not enjoy it fully? Dreaming affects our life more than most comprehend. Entering the dreaming world as a student, one begins to open gateways that reflect in the waking state. What is not possible in the physical world is possible in the dream world.
