Discover The Magic of The Number 13
“Discovery does not require a great leap of faith, only the first step towards your destiny.” - Charan Singh “Ajpu”
SUPERSTITION
Magic is that which appears upon belief, manifestation, and intuition. When we think of numbers, how does magic relate? Numbers and spell-ing play a magic role; communication depends on both these skills.
If you grew up in the west, 13 is considered a taboo number, many buildings do not have a 13th floor. As Stevie Wonder said so famously, “If you believe in things you don’t understand, you will suffer, superstition ain’t the way.”
How could a number be considered bad? After all, Friday the 13th aligned with my birthday. Maybe some of you have heard “7 years of bad luck.” For what actions? Breaking a mirror? Yes, Stevie Wonder said that too.
13 MOONS
In mathematics, 13 is a common number in nature. This number is considered a master number, combining energies of both feminine and masculine. Many ancient civilizations observed and recorded the lunar cycle, measured as roughly 29 days, creating 12 months and a partial month, often known as the “thirteenth lunar month.” In Mayan, Aztec, and Toltec Astrology, this is the fundamental meaning of the number 13.
ORACLE
The 52 Standard Playing cards have 4 suits (Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, and Spades). There are 13 cards for each suit (13×4=52) and there are 52 weeks in a year.
The 13th card in a suit is the King; representing principles and values.
52 x 7 (Planets) equals 364, leaving the jokers to represent the remaining 1.25 days in a 365.25 day year. The number of divination cards used in the Tarot is 13×6=78.
The Tarot card numbered 13 represents change, rebirth, and transformation.
TURTLE ISLAND
In Native American and Mayan paradigms, North America is known as “Turtle Island.”
On the shell of a turtle are 13 rectangles, on a snake’s rattle there are 13 rattles.
There are also 13 joints in the body, representing humanity, and 13 heavens in the Mayan Cosmo-vision. The pyramid of time that constitutes the bases of Mayan Astrology uses 13 numbers. 13 is the resonance or number to build a foundation towards a secure future in pragmatism.
In eastern spirituality, the 13th Kua in the I Ching is usually translated ‘Fellowship with Men’ or ‘Sameness with People’ and refers to our ability to work with and organize others in productive activity.
The Free Masons believe 13 as the number of good fortune, the American one-dollar bill’s pyramid measures 13×33=432. The American flag has 13 stripes and the Betsy Rose flag has 13 stars in a circle (just like the Mayan day cycle).
KARMA
All ancient instruments are tuned to 432 Hz, especially the flutes of South America. The Baktun Cycle of Maya Astrology, as well as the Kaliuga cycle of India, are based on this mathematical “great cycle” of 432,000 years. Many phrases associated with the United States contain 13 letters, including “Annuit Coeptis” and “E Pluribus Unum.” When you break down 13 to single digits, 1+3=4. 4 is a representation of the 4 directions of the universe, and in Vedic practices, 13/4 is the Karmic number.
FIBONACCI
In all of Leonardo Da Vici’s paintings, one can see an artist utilizing numerology, mathematics, and sacred geometry. The famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci of the Nazarene Last Supper shows 13 participants. The Mayan Cross Horoscope divides your life into three rows, each representing 26 years of your life (13×2=26). 13 is the 7th number in the Fibonacci sequence.
BIRTH NUMBER
Born on the 13th day? You are determined, precise, love family, tradition, and community.
Those born on the 13th day also are artistically talented, organized, and hard-working.
Related to karmic debt in Vedic astrology, I am writing this article to clarify some misconceptions of this number, and hopefully, in the process, work on my karmic debt. There is a lot of information on the number 13. being biased; I encourage you to take a look at what conclusions your research draws.
13 DOLLAR BILL
When reading this to my father, he said, “Just don’t accept a 13 dollar bill.”
Many things in the west seem backward, odd, or just plain silly. Maybe the lesson here is to build on the existing wisdom of our ancestral roots. Disregard modern taboos and superstition. Or simply, do our own analysis and draw our own conclusions.
Do you believe in magic? Would you read an article on the number 13 if you didn’t? After all, isn’t that what history teaches us?
My question remains; If there are 13 Constellations, why 12 Zodiac signs?
